Frequently Asked Questions

When should I hire a Doula?

As early as you can once you know you want to hire one!

If you know you would like to have me as your doula,  make contact as soon as possible. Doula's birth diaries can become very busy, so to avoid the disappointment of missing out on my support, book as soon as possible.
Many families chose to hire a doula in the second trimester to allow time to build a relationship and really take time to get more prenatal support. With that said, if you decide you would like to have a doula later in your pregnancy, its not impossible, so reach out and I can see if I can support you!

What are the benefits of having a Doula?

Research shows having a doula before and during your birth can help with:

  • Shorter labours
  • Lower rates of caesarean sections
  • Reduced need for pain medication
  • Greater birth satisfaction
  • Better birth partner confidence

Do Doulas only support vaginal births?

No! Doulas support all types of births: medicated, unmedicated, caesarean births, VBAC, hospital births, home births.

Do Doulas replace midwives?

Absolutely not. Doulas compliment medical staff by providing continuous non-medical support for you and your birth partner. They also provide antenatal support and postnatal support long after you have left the medical specialists.
